Oh man… How to put this?…
Øya festival in the middle of Oslo might be one of the most crowded
places in Norway right now. It has to be.
95 bands on five huge stages in four long days is a lot to manage, and to take in.
We have just gotten through the first day, and allerede I know I’m gonna need a
looong vacation after this. If only I was that lucky…

Representing and fronting your colleges and band mates the right way in a place like this,
is not easy. Knowing who to talk to and what to talk about…
You’re a very tiny fish in a very big pond, and it seems like it’s just growing bigger every year.
But slowly, bit by bit you get to know someone who knows someone who was there on that gig
a couple of nights ago and saw you play a good show and want you to do the same at their place.
Don’t mind if we do, thank you very much. Get their e-mail address and phone number.
Give away a single and a button and off you go. The guppy grows…

Thom Hell sang in the distance as we tried to find our camp. So did Ingrid Olava,
playing background vocals to the rain that seemed to have it in for my cool pointy blue suede shoes.
Air played at the same time as Therese Aune and the sound-collage was quite terrifying. Pity for
Therese Aune who seemed to have a good time in our little tent at Camp Indie.
Iggy And The Stooges gave us our first really cool show. Inviting people up on stage with him,
talking about how he had no rights as a young man in America and yelling;
“Yes I have a dick, and I wanna use it!”
With that said I have to say this as well; Man the guy has grown old. The coolest old cat on stage
by far yes, but; oh my! I hope I look like that when I’m a hundred-and-sixty as well…

M.I.A told us that the night was over and we went home.
Tomorrow it’s Kråkesølv, Jonsi and The Cumshots. And in the distance;
Motorpsycho performing Timmothys Monster. It’s gonna be a weary, fun, entertaining festival.
Cheers.

Jack Dalton

Never Mute Noise, Just Turn Down Sleep

Jack Dalton’s highly anticipated debut “Never mute noise, just turn down the sleep” is finally set to attack your sense of music, by exploring a variety of musical landscapes. The album is truly a mix of many genres and strongly manifested within progressive hardcore with melodic energy. The bands debut is an “instant slowburner” that captures the desperate angst between the restlessness of youth and musical manhood.

The album contains contemporary classics, such as “Manhattan?”, “Camuflage” and “Desperation Prevails” to trackdrop the tip of the iceberg. There are many things that can be claimed, when trying to explain the energy and dynamics of rock groups within the hardcore genre. “Never mute noise, just turn down the sleep” guides you through melodies that keep you tripping through the soundtrack of a band with temporary glimpse of hope. It progresses with tension and release towards a state of mind that many will be able to justify.

By now, you know that this album lies in the mist of many progressive genres. Still, it mirrors the best qualities of rock, hardcore, prog, indie and fuzzpop. As the winner of Norwegian band contest “Zoom 2010″, Jack Dalton is hailed as the best new live act in a mountainous country faaar north. With hints towards early “The Mars Drive-In “…trail of Dead”, “Motorpsycho” “Pavement” and “Mew”, “Never mute noise, just turn down the sleep” is explosive ammunitions going back to the future and beyond.

Når våren kom i april slapp de debutskiva “Never Mute Noise, Just Turn Down Sleep” til sterke anmeldelser landet rundt. Bl.a femmere i Dagbladet og Adressa.
